Preliminary Highway Design

We offer preliminary design of road infrastructure including the design of new junctions and links, and the redesign of existing junctions to address specific operational or safety concerns. Junction assessment junction may also form part of a wider corridor or area study involving increased provision for public transport, cyclists and pedestrians. The impact of additional traffic upon a junction, particularly in relation to a new development, is analysed using recognised computer models such as Junctions9 (PICADY and ARCADY), and LINSIG.

Detailed Highway Design
Following a successful application, CDA can progress the preliminary highway designs to full detailed design up to Technical Approval. This includes off-site highway schemes via S278 Agreements and on-site highway and layout design through Section 38 Agreements using Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Manual for Streets and Manual for Streets 2. Throughout the detailed design process, CDA will liaise with the local highway authority (LHA) to facilitate a design that best suits the client and meets LHA requirements.
